Thrifting like a Chicagoan

I didn't get to go to any of the sweet vintage stores that I had looked up before I left for my trip to Chicago... but I did however score big at a little church thrift store in the suburb of Addison. We spotted the store from the street, parked quickly, and started digging. We only arrived about 20 minutes before closing. Luckily, I'm a thrifting expert. ;)
Ashley didn't buy those gaudy dishes, and I didn't buy that gigantic fan, but we had fun playing. The hutch below was fabulous! Ashley tried her hardest to find someone with a large truck to haul it from Addison to Wisconsin, but wasn't so lucky. It was a steal! Only $80. If it's meant to be, the China cabinet will be waiting for her when she comes home from her honeymoon.
This little beauty did venture home with me! Isn't she lovely? I'm such a sucker for mermaids. I spotted her and Ashley negotiated a price. $3.99 for this whopper of a find! She's heavy. I had to wrap her all up and carefully lug her through the airport on Sunday night. A carry on bag and a mermaid. Well worth it. A vintage beauty!
I also found a gorgeous, long, Oscar de la Renta nightgown for only $3.99 at this thrift store. They had a rack of things that were "New with Tags", too. Aunt Kendra found this pretty, small, light pink jacket from Banana Republic. I tried it on and it fit like a glove! Beautiful vintage styling to the coat, too. Even Scott said, "Wow. I didn't know Banana Republic sold vintage-looking things." Pretty cool. I took it to the dry cleaners today. I figured that it should still have a good wash even if it was brand new with tags.

I really think that the vintage bug hasn't bit Chicago, yet. The vintage things that I did see were prices very well. That hutch would have been tagged at least $200 in Maryland. There were even midcentury kidney bean end tables and a coffee table marked $100 for the whole set. They wouldn't fit in my suitcase.

That's all. I couldn't bring home too much in my little Roxy carry on suitcase. Next time, maybe. I'm stoked on all of the goodies that I brought home with me.
