floral design & event decorating on the eastern shore

December?

How is it December already? How is my Christmas tree decorated and sucking up 2 gallons of water a day? How is that I have already strung 12 strands of sparkling holiday lights on the exterior of my house? How is it that my Christmas shopping is practically finished already? How is it that it’s still 70 degrees in our coastal town and tomorrow is December 1st? Seriously… so many questions and so much happening. I feel like I’m in disbelief.

I made the pretty drive from central PA to the eastern shore of Maryland on Friday evening after spending the day with my sister. We used black Friday as a reason to sleep in and only made it to two of our favorite small, privately owned shops in down town Lancaster, PA. Went out our fabulous brewery in Berlin that night and met up with some of my favorite people. My parents were at my house all the while.
On Saturday the Reist elves were at it all day. I picked up a 13-foot Christmas tree… yes… you read that correctly. It’s HUGE! I had to use a 6’ step ladder to decorate it. I made and hung wreaths on our front windows, put up the white holiday lights (only after tripping the electric breaker 4 times), and then took a hot bubble bath.

Sunday, it was 74 degrees in Ocean City. Insane. I wore my 3/2 wetsuit in the surf and lasted for just over an hour before I was chilly. Even got sunburn on my face where my cheeks were exposed from my neoprene hood.
Life is good and the holidays are coming whether I’m, or maybe your, ready for it. I’m excited… except I can’t believe my fancy tights are alone in my top drawer and I can’t wear them for fear that I’ll sweat to death at my office.  Soon enough, soon enough.  (I don’t want to jinx anyone here into getting snow. These shorebirds don’t care for snow much. Since I’m from PA I’m an oddity- someone who loves snow- in coastal Maryland.)

Anyone else in the holiday spirit? Trees upright, decorations spread out, baking cookies? I hope so – ‘cause it’s coming!
