m + j wedding

Rising tides, road closures and power outages could not keep a local couple married during the peak of the Nor’easter from getting their new lives off to a memorable start on Friday." - Shawn Soper, MD Coastal Dispatch
Mollie & Josh's wedding this past Friday evening was one for the record books! I was purposely ignoring the internet, the weather reports, and the news because I didn't want to hear about the impeding storm caused by Hurricane Joaquin and a nor'easter headed up the coast from the tropics. I knew that the weather was horrifying... our trees were bent in half, the flower shop's garage door was flexing each time the wind blew, puddles were forming inside my doorways, and the parking lot outside was about 10 inches underwater. I didn't want to think about what downtown Ocean City looked like. On Friday afternoon, I put on my favorite rain coat, rain boots, and loaded the car with wedding flowers. I drove across the drawbridge into town and was greeted by closed streets and police barricades due to flooding. I drove past the police men and turned opposite onto a one-way-street and booked it down to the wedding venue with my flashers blinking and my horn honking to warn oncoming traffic that I was a woman on a mission! I wrapped Mollie's flower arrangements in several coats of a protective fabric to stop the blowing sand from destroying the arrangements. The sand and rain was whipping past me at 50+ mph. After 5 trips into Harrison's Harbor Watch Restaurant, the wedding florals were in place and it was an hour and a half from show time. I waded through knee-high water to deliver the bride's bouquet and bridesmaids bouquets to their condo on Wicomico Street. A kind man on vacation from Pennsylvania was watching as I trekked through the flood and I asked him to take my photo. I knew it was going to be one of those, 'I need this photo to show my kids some day', kind of moments! Mollie and her gals had called a friend to hitch a ride from their condo to the Harbor Watch. A few minutes later, a whole squad of firemen showed up in a National Guard style deuce truck! The girls piled into it with their dresses in garment bags and their bouquets in their vases. Nothing like seeing photos of your bouquet being handed to firemen wearing rain gear out of a camouflage truck. I love it! I can't wait to see more of your photos from Mollie & Josh's special day. The staff and team at Harrison's Harbor Watch went above and beyond to accommodate this couple, the bridal party, and their guests on the day of the wedding. I am majorly impressed by the effort all of the vendors put into making this wedding day happen, transform into something stunning, and make the most out of troubling scenario.
