Fitzbound Road House

Another abandoned beauty. A stately house with a beautiful (but rotted) bay window turret. This house stands on the corner of Fitzbound Road and Mount Vernon Road in Princess Anne, MD. Still filled with furniture and accessories, this house was boarded up and neglected for quite some time. Someone's been mowing the grass, though. This place was crawling with poison ivy. If you don't see pictures of me for a while, it's beause I'm coated in poison ivy. I'm praying that I didn't catch it... my legs do feel a little itchy already.I think this fell off of the roof or...

McIntyre Road

The best way to find cool little spots to explore is to 'take the long way' anywhere. After spending the day in beautiful and historic Princess Anne, MD, I 'took the long way' home. While enjoying my drive, I spotted this pretty little home on the side of McIntyre Road in Mount Vernon, MD.This old home is abandoned with over-grown grass and poison ivy galore. The property is located along a bend in the road next to two pretty, beautifully restored homes. It makes me wonder why this house was left behind? If the neighbors saw value in restoring their old...

Don't Forget About Mother's Day

It's almost Mother's Day! Don't forget to get a special little note in the mail to your mother, mom, grandmother, nana, nanny, mom mom, grammy, or any other leading lady in your life soon.I just wanted to send out a little reminder so you don't end up in the dog house. I put together these handmade numbers this morning and took them immediately to the mailbox so they'll reach my mom and both Nana's by Saturday...I think they're pretty cute! (& I didn't even need to run to the store!) I made them with plain cardstock, old vintage wallpaper scraps,...

Bivalve Oyster Packing Co.

The Bivalve Oyster Packing Co, Inc was a canned and cured fish and seafood processing plant in the Princess Anne/Mount Vernon area of Maryland’s Eastern Shore. A bivalve is another name for an oyster. Both Princess Anne and Mount Vernon once relied completely upon these little shelled creatures. The local economy depended on harvesting mollusks from the local waterways. Today, there isn’t a trace of the shell fish economy in this area. The Bivalve Oyster Packing Co once employed approximately 20 to 50 employees and brought in a gross annual sale of just under $500,000.The company was founded in 1946....

Teackle Mansion

I took a little road trip to Princess Anne, Maryland today. This little town was one of the most picturesque towns I've visited on the Eastern Shore yet. Located at the head of the Manokin River, Princess Anne was formed in the 1600s and established as a municipality in 1733. The sidewalks were made of brick, the streets were lined with huge aged trees, and I was in Colonial, Federal, and Victorian heaven. The Teackle Mansion is a highly elaborate example of Federal style architecture built by Littleton Dennis Teackle, one of the area's most influential men of the early 19th...
